Drake recently took to his Instagram to show off a special "for stage use" —a fitting silhouette as he’s long been adamant about his admiration for UK grime culture, something that the Plus has always been a staple of—complete with a brand-new rope style lacing system. The special shoe leaves the Plus’s upper and midsole intact, opting for a tonal black color palate with the only color arriving via a bright hit of aqua on the midfoot plate.



However, the custom embellishments are what makes the shoe stand out: an interesting lacing system covers a large portion of the upper, starting back at the heel before creeping almost all the way up to the toebox, with the eyelets arriving directly above the midsole for an interesting webbed aesthetic. The laces feature flecked reflective detailing—so Drake can shine extra bright on stage—and the shoe also boasts a large heel tab, a design quirk that doesn’t appear on a regular Air Max Plus.

With December right around the corner, the accompanying releases are set to make their way into many retailers and storefronts all across the globe. At a time for fervent holiday shopping, the Beaverton brand won’t quite let us a rest with a series of strong iterations on some of their most notable silhouettes, now updating the Air Max Plus. The UK fashion staple — and burgeoning stateside model — is set to receive the same iconic "Greedy" motif found on the AM95 that bears the same namesake.

Though arriving this time with an overlaid grid pattern across the entire upper, the newcomer to the "Greedy" tag takes things in a different direction. Some might argue the model should be done up in a gradient — as fitting of many of the Plus’s past offerings — but instead the designers have taken on a more overt stitched split down the middle in a somewhat similar execution to the UNION Jordan 1s. Along the medial side is the classic orange while the lateral is a much cooler blue, creating quite a strong love letter to the sneaker’s deeply rooted history.

The has enjoyed a bountiful 20th anniversary in 2018. From re-releasing in classic colorways like the "Sunset" and "Hyper Blue" plus being worn in a modified version on-stage by Drake for the duration of his "Scorpion" tour, the classic silhouette has proved that its design ethos stands the test of time. Now it’s surfaced in a new "Blue Void" that features a simple base with colorful accents — as the Plus is wont to do.
